Placenta Encapsulation

Your placenta can be a source of healing and well being.

Eastern medicine has used placenta for treatment of many different maladies.  Now in our own culture, many people are exploring the possible benefits of  taking placenta for healing after birth. Placenta has been claimed to promote wellness, breastfeeding success, and emotional and hormonal balance.*

Placenta contains many healing elements including the following:

  • Gonadatropins: the hormones estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.
  • Prolactin: promotes lactation.
  • Prostaglandin: stimulates  involution of the uterus.
  • Oxytocin: decreases pain and increases bonding in mother and infant.
  • Thyroid Stimulating Hormone: boosts energy and helps with recovery from stressful events.
  • Cortisone: combats stress and unlocks energy stores.
  • Interferon: stimulates the immune system to protect against infections.
  • Prostaglandins: anti-inflammatory.
  • Iron: replenishes iron deficiency and anemia, a common postpartum condition.
  • Urokinase inhibiting factor and factor XIII: reduces bleeding and enhances wound healing.
  • Gammaglobulin: immune booster that helps protect against postpartum infections.

I have encapsulated over 100 placentas.  You can feel confident in my experience and professionalism.  Read my client testimonials to see how people feel about my services and their experience with placentophagy.

  • WDH, Exeter Hospital, Portsmouth Hospital and Frisbie Hospital are all within my local travel area.  There is an additional charge for travel if your birth place/home is more than 20 miles from my home.
  • Please confirm your due date with me by email before paying your deposit so that I can ensure that space is available.
  • Placenta prints and tinctures are also available. Please check on your registration form if you would like them.

PLEASE NOTE:  Both York and Portsmouth Regional Hospitals have recently refused to hold placentas.    While I do my best to pick up placentas promptly, I do not  pick up after visiting hours, and may not always be able to pick up your placenta within the time these hospitals require.  If you plan to deliver at either of these hospitals you should be prepared to have a friend or family member take your placenta home within 6 hours of birth if necessary.

What my clients have experienced…

I strongly recommend Amy to anyone who is looking for a one of a kind doula who is well versed in all aspects of birthing and postpartum care for both mama and baby.

Catherine

I noticed a marked difference in my mood, milk supply and general well being as compared to my first birth. I was considered high risk for postpartum depression due to my PTSD and honestly feel that my capsules helped minimize the hormonal disruptions I was worried about.

Katie

This was my first baby so I had no postpartum issues I was particularly concerned about, but the energy and balance I felt the pills give me were well worth it in the weeks following his birth. Overall I would recommend Amy 100% to anyone thinking about using a doula or trying encapsulation.

April

I’m so happy I did the placenta encapsulation! I credit it with my smooth transition into motherhood and will definitely be doing it again.

Abigail

not only was she prompt and respectful with regards to the placenta encapsulation, she was also an incredible source of support in my postpartum days

Consider a tincture too!

Placenta Tincture is made from a piece of the raw placenta steeped in high proof alcohol for 6 weeks.  It is useful for hormonal balancing from PMS to menopause.  This is a great way to make your placenta last indefinitely, as it is shelf stable and extremely potent (1 drop of tincture = 1 capsule of dried placenta) .
