I am not currently booking placenta encapsulation for anyone other than my own labor support clients. This is due to the CDC’s recent statement release.
The CDC has recently stated that “The placenta encapsulation process does not per se eradicate infectious pathogens; thus, placenta capsule ingestion should be avoided”**
I have many questions and doubts about the CDC’s statement, including the fact and it has not been conclusively determined that the placenta capsules were the cause of infection in the infant, or how that may have been transferred to the infant, I am confident that consuming PROPERLY PREPARED placenta capsules does not pose a health risk to mother or baby. But due to the stand the CDC has taken, I cannot accept the liability exposure that its statement creates.
If new evidence emerges or the CDC changes its stance I will certainly consider encapsulating again.
