Almost every mammal on the planet consumes their placenta after giving birth.  Why shouldn’t you?

Your placenta contains:

Gonadatropins: the hormones estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.  These hormone levels change drastically in the first days postpartum, and consuming the placenta may ease the transition and improve mood.

Prolactin: promotes lactation.

Oxytocin: (the love hormone) to decrease pain and increase bonding in mother and infant.

Thyroid Stimulating Hormone: boosts energy and helps recovery from stressful events.

Cortisone: combats stress and unlocks energy stores.

Interferon: stimulates the immune system to protect against infections.

Prostaglandins: anti-inflammatory.

Iron: replenishes iron deficiency and anemia, a common postpartum condition.

Urokinase inhibiting factor and factor XIII: stops bleeding and enhances wound healing.

Gammaglobulin: immune booster that helps protect against postpartum infections.

Many people have reported increased feelings of wellness and energy with placenta dosing. Shorter recovery periods after delivery and decreased feelings of depression or anxiety are also common reports.  While we have no real clinical evidence to support these claims, the sharing of  experiences from one mother to another, has been enough to keep the practice of placetophagy alive and growing worldwide.

Disclaimer:

The CDC has recently stated that “The placenta encapsulation process does not per se eradicate infectious pathogens; thus, placenta capsule ingestion should be avoided”**

I do steam and then dehydrate placentas that I process, both at temperatures that should kill most forms of bacteria. I cannot, however; guarantee that your placenta will not contain any live bacillus. Please understand this before contracting with me. For my protection you will be required to sign a contract stating that you have read and understand the following CDC statement.

Consider a tincture too!

Placenta Tincture is made from a piece of the raw placenta steeped in high proof alcohol for 6 weeks.  It is useful for hormonal balancing from PMS to menopause.  This is a great way to make your placenta last indefinitely, as it is shelf stable and extremely potent (1 drop of tincture = 1 capsule of dried placenta) .

Amy was wonderful to us

She has an awesome information booklet that answered all of the question my husband and I had. When we finally had our baby Amy came to the hospital and retrieved my placenta and returned it encapsulated in no time at all! Amy is professional, very sweet, and goes the extra mile.

Brittany

not only was she prompt and respectful with regards to the placenta encapsulation, she was also an incredible source of support in my postpartum days

Jennifer Blyer

happy that I did it!

I have been surprised at how much energy I have and how smoothly the healing process has gone! I have had none of the typical mood swings or hot flashes that are typical in the postpartum period. I had my 6 week postpartum visit with my OB/GYN today and she even said ‘it sounds like things are going too well!’
