Baby Mapping teaches you how to discover the current position of your baby in your uterus.
Finding your baby’s position is a fun and bonding practice for both mom and dad, but more importantly it is the first step to optimal fetal positioning.
When labors are more difficult, longer, or require interventions like cesarean; it is often due to what doctors would call a “malposition of the fetus”. This simply means that the baby is having a hard time aligning to fit through the pelvis. Just like trying to put a square peg in a square hole, a baby wants to be aligned in a way that easily slips through the opening of your pelvis. While most babies find their way through the pelvis, turning as they descend; some (about 13%) do not, and result in either a longer more difficult delivery, or require interventions like cesarean.
‘Optimal Fetal Positioning’ (OFP) is a theory developed by midwife Jean Sutton, and Pauline Scott, an antenatal teacher, who found that the mother’s position and movement could influence the way her baby lay in the womb in the final weeks of pregnancy.
Amy has been taught by Gail Tully of SPINNING BABIES and can teach you how to determine your baby’s current position, and how you can affect that position. If you like; after you determine what position your baby is in, Amy can draw a map of your baby on your belly to help you visualize that position.
Baby Mapping is available in the privacy of your home, and is a great gift for an expecting mom or as a baby shower event. Baby Mapping is best done in the last months of pregnancy when baby is more settled in position.
